Everbloom Paper Flowers

King Protea (Arctic, Closed)

$275

The king protea is the largest flower in its genus and the national flower of South Africa. Before it opens, the bracts curve inward and overlap into a deep goblet — the stage florists often prefer, because the flower is at its most sculptural before it flattens out. ‘Arctic Ice’ is the pale cultivar, cream where most proteas run pink.

Every bract holds a curve and sits against its neighbors without gapping, each one shaped individually and set at an angle that carries the cup. The paper is hand-dyed first, the yellow worked into the fiber at each bract’s base and fading toward a cream tip, so the color deepens as it recedes into the bloom. The fringed center is cut filament by filament and nested where only part of it shows, and fine wool fiber is worked along the bract edges to reproduce the soft down of the real flower. Hand-dyed wine stem, individually shaded leaves.

A closed-form stem that reads as an object more than a flower — quieter than the open bloom, and easier to place where a fully splayed head would dominate. It stays permanently at a stage the real bloom passes through in days.

18 in. tall, 5 in. wide at bloom

Materials & Making

Every piece is built from premium German and Italian crepe paper — hand-dyed, hand-painted, and shaped petal by petal. Stems are wired throughout, so each piece can be bent, angled, and arranged as you like, and holds its shape once set.

A multi-step protective finish seals the color, adds a subtle luster, and guards against fading and humidity. Because every piece is colored by hand, tones vary slightly from the photograph — no two are identical, and yours will be its own.

Made to Order

Each piece is made by hand after your order is confirmed. Typical preparation times, measured from the date your order is confirmed with Julia: 7–10 days for one to three stems, 10–14 days for four to seven, and 14–21 days for larger commissions. Shipping transit adds approximately 5–7 days. Timelines run longer through the holiday season and the spring wedding months, and your confirmed date will always be stated in writing before you commit.

Working toward a wedding or event date? Include the date in your request and we’ll confirm the full schedule before anything is finalized. Need a piece sooner than the times above? Ask — a compressed timeline can often be arranged.

Prefer a different palette? Most pieces can be made in custom colors — describe what you have in mind, or send a photograph, and Julia will confirm what’s possible with your quote.

Every piece is finished with a tag signed and dated by Julia, nested in tissue, and boxed for safe travel. Preparation & Delivery

Care & Repairs

Though delicate in appearance, each piece is remarkably durable and may be bent and arranged as needed. Keep out of prolonged direct sun and damp environments, and your piece will hold its color and form for decades. Because every piece is made by hand to order, all sales are final.
